God Loves, Sees, and Values His Children

leaf div end

Do you ever question your value or feel unseen? Let’s see what God has to say about the topic.

As my husband and I sat looking out our window, the sun was shining brightly. It was then we noticed something different. On this particular morning, the yard was filled with birds, many more than usual. And they were extra active. They were flying from tree to tree. Then from the ground to the trees. Once in a while they were stopping by our birdfeeder for a quick snack. Then off they would go, onto their next destination.

One small bird landed on our deck railing, just a few feet from the window where we were bird gazing. He sat, almost looking into the window, as if he knew God was using him to speak to my heart. As I stared at this small, ordinary bird, I felt the Lord questioning me.

“Misty, do you remember how I used birds to teach a couple lessons in the Book of Matthew?”

Oh yes,” I thought. That realization made me see the birds fluttering around the yard in a new light. My eyes settled on a small one perched on the deck railing, and I found myself thinking, God sees you, little bird. He is such a great and mighty God that He watches over you and all your tiny companions dancing through the air today. In fact, little bird, even if one of you were to fall from the sky, our God would notice — for nothing escapes His care.

As I pondered the significance of our mighty God finding value and really seeing these little birds, I was reminded of what God sees in us—someone far more valuable than these birds.

Jesus’ teachings remind us that we have no need to be anxious. The same God who cares for the birds of the air, cares considerably more for us. The One who knows when a bird falls to the ground, also knows when the circumstances of our lives are pressing down upon us. During those times, He speaks to us in a gentle, yet confident voice, and says, “are you not of more value than they?” As that truth washes over us, His peace is poured upon our very soul.

My hope is that when you see the birds flying around to and fro today, you are reminded that you are seen, loved, and valued by the God of the universe.

Heavenly Father, sometimes I don’t feel valuable. Sometimes, I don’t know if I am even seen. And yet, your words remind me that I am valuable to you. That I am seen by you. Please instill these truths into my heart. Allow them to penetrate deeply, so I no longer question the value you see in me. Amen

Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?  Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?  And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?  Matthew 6:25-27

Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them can fall to the ground without your Father’s knowledge.        Matthew 10:29
